News for Immediate ReleaseMay 5, 2010 PennDOT to Replace the White Horse Road Bridge over Pickering Creek in Schuylkill Township King of Prussia – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that construction is scheduled to begin May 17 on a $2.2 million project to replace the White Horse Road Bridge over Pickering Creek in Schuylkill Township. During Construction, Whitehorse Road will be closed between Yellow Spring Road and Pothouse Road. Cars will be detoured over Valley Park Road, Country Club Road and Route 23. Trucks will be detoured over Route 23, Route 29, and Yellow Springs Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area. Crews will replace the existing three-span reinforced concrete through-girder bridge with a new three-span concrete adjacent box beam bridge. The new bridge will be 36 feet wide and 129 feet long and it will carry Pennsylvania Bicycle Route S. The current bridge was built in 1927 and is 24 feet wide and 120 feet long. It carries 5,332 vehicles a day. The old bridge is posted with an 18-ton weight limit. Clearwater Construction, Inc. of Mercer, Pa. is the general contractor on the $2,214,000 project that is financed with 100 percent state funds. Construction is expected to be completed by June 2011.
